Kabia visits DR Congo's diamond region
The president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila, has made his first visit to the country's 'diamond capital' Mbuji-Mayi. Mr Kabila is touring the the gem-rich Kasai region which was badly hit by the three-year war which destroyed the former Zaire. Control of the diamond reserves in the region was at the centre of fierce fighting betwen government troops and rebels. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
