Couple tied up by masked raiders

Detectives in north Wales have appealed for public help to track down four masked men who tied up and robbed a Wrexham businessman and his wife in their own home.

The drama happened as the couple - who do not wish to be publicly identified - were enjoying a quiet evening watching television on Saturday night.

The couple were intimidated to the point where they could not resist

Just before 2300BST, four men dressed in black and with black ski masks over their faces forced their way into their home in the Belleview Park area of the town.

Armed with screwdrivers, they threatened the couple in their 50s and tied them up.

The couple were forced to hand over the keys to the safe and the raiders made off with cash and jewellery.

The couple were left locked in a downstairs room as the men escaped.

'Nasty' attack

Police have said the couple were not physically hurt but had been left traumatised by their experience.

"It was a nasty incident which was done in quite a professional way," a police spokesman said.

"The couple were intimidated to the point where they could not resist."

The four raiders are all said to have soft Merseyside accents and were men rather than youths, possibly in their 30s.

They were all about 5ft 10 and dressed in black anoraks, black trousers and had black ski masks.

Police have asked that anyone with information contact Wrexham CID or their local station.

He said that they would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Ruthin Road, Penybryn or Belleview Park area on Saturday night.
