Loyalist road block ends
Loyalists were involved in a stand off with security forces
Loyalists were involved in a stand off with security forces
A loyalist protest which blocked off the Ligoniel Road in north Belfast has ended.

The protest, on Sunday, had caused traffic disruption in the area.

Sinn Fein councillor Eoin O'Broin claimed the loyalists had tried to prevent people from attending a Hunger Strike commemoration march in the mainly nationalist Ardoyne area.

"A large crowd of loyalists appeared and blocked off the bottom of the road," he said.

"The RUC appeared and there was a bit of a stand off."

He said local people believed the protest was to prevent them getting out of Ligoniel and to the march in Ardoyne.
