Appeal for witnesses after fatal crash
The accident happened on Friday evening
Police have appealed for witnesses after a road accident left three people dead.
The accident happened on the A77 dual carriageway at Symington, close to Ayr, at about 2015 BST on Friday. A Ford Fiesta turning onto the southbound carriageway is said to have collided with a Vauxhall Cavalier heading north. The 21-year-old driver of the Fiesta and his 17-year-old female passenger died at the scene. The driver of the Cavalier, a 35-year-old man, died after being taken to Crosshouse Hospital, near Kilmarnock, with serious injuries. A 36-year-old woman travelling with him was also badly hurt. A Crosshouse spokesman, on Saturday, described her condition as stable. Strathclyde Police later named the victims. The driver of the Fiesta was identified as Steven Ruddie, 21, of Kilmarnock, and his passenger was Sarah Melon, 17, also of Kilmarnock. The driver of the Cavalier was 35-year-old David Johnston of Barr, near Girvan, who died later after being taken to Crosshouse Hospital with serious injuries. Strathclyde Police appealed for any witnesses to contact the traffic department at Kilmarnock Police Office. |
