Aggravated burglary charge
A 34-year-old unemployed man has been accused of aggravated burglary at a court in County Antrim.

James Paul McConville, of no fixed abode, faced several charges arising from an alleged burglary at the home of an elderly couple on 17 January.

He is accused of assaulting the couple and imprisoning them against their will.

Mr McConville refused to leave his cell for the court appearance.

The magistrate, who had to hear the case in one of the cells at Lisburn courthouse, was told Mr McConville believed his human rights would be breached if he had to spend time in custody.

He was remanded in custody until next week.
