Peru official denies Montesinos link
In Peru, the man who led the efforts to arrest the former intelligence chief, Valdimiro Montesinos, is himself being investigated for alleged corruption said to involve dealings with the former spy master.
The Attorney-General, Nelly Calderon, said she opened a preliminary investigation into Ketin Vidal following a report from the United States Treasury on suspicious transactions in American banks between accounts held under the names of the two men. Mr Vidal denies any wrongdoing, saying he's never had an account outside Peru. Mr Montesinos, who's currently in jail awaiting trial in Lima, was captured in Venezuela and returned to Peru after eight months on the run. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
