Islamic Jihad have claimed responsibility for todays bombing in the centre of Jerusalem

Nineteen people have been killed and over seventy injured in a bomb blast in Israel.

The words "spiralling out of control" and moving towards the brink" have been used so often that they become cliches, almost platitudes until you see the pictures of panic and broken bodies.

Once again the Middle East conflict has claimed its victims, this time on the streets of Jerusalem.

A powerful bomb went off in the centre of Jerusalem at lunchtime today. Our correspondent Paul Wood brought us the latest from the scene

The explosion was at a crowded pizza restaurant. The Israeli prime minister's adviser, Raanan Gissin, spoke to WATO on his way to bomb scene and told us the bomb justified Israel's actions against the Palestinians.
