Mini-tornado hits caravan park
The tornado upturned one caravan in the park
Two people have been hurt and caravans damaged after a mini-tornado hit a Hampshire caravan park.
The freak gust struck at the Kingfisher Caravan Park between Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent just after 0900BST on Thursday. Stephen Sargeant, the caravan park owner, said: "All I could see was debris and rubbish flying around everywhere. Two caravans were upturned. "One caravan completely leaped over a car. There was somebody inside the caravan who was slightly hurt."
The man, who is in his 40s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Mr Sargeant said the tornado went hurtling through the caravan park. "It was gone in 30 seconds and all the damage was done." Samantha White, 10, saw the whirlwind approaching the park.
She said: "I started running for it and then it was getting closer and closer to me. "Then suddenly I could hardly run and I was walking because it was getting so close and so hard. "I went rushing into my caravan shouting, nearly crying, because I had got so scared." She added: "I thought I was going to get sucked up." Samantha's parents did not believe her about the tornado until they saw the upturned caravan. Fire fighters from Fareham and Gosport are carrying out checks to make sure the area is safe.
