Ethiopia floods leave thousands starving

In Ethiopia, heavy floods due to torrential rain are reported to have left more than six-thousand people stranded by rising waters in the Gambella region in the west of the country.

The flooding occurred after the Gilo river burst its banks more than two weeks ago, isolating residents in the Jol district since then.

The regional authorities in Gambella said Jol residents are surviving on leaves and roots because of serious food shortages.

The authorities said crocodiles attacked and killed four people and they fear that if flooding continued the threat from crocodiles would increase.
