Carjacked woman sexually assaulted
Police graphic
A woman has been sexually assaulted after being abducted in her own car in Portsmouth.

She was travelling home just after midnight on Tuesday when a man jumped into her Ford Escort as she stopped at traffic lights.

The attacker, believed to be in his 20s, forced her to drive through Portsmouth to Portsdown Hill where he sexually assaulted her.

Hampshire Police have launched a major investigation into what they have described as "a serious sexual assault".

The man ran off in the direction of College Lane and Crookhill Lane, in Portsdown Hill, following the assault.

Hampshire Police spokesman, Richard Horrix, described the man as "in his mid-twenties, stocky, with short cropped hair and wearing dark clothes with a sports top".

The woman, from Havant, was treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for head and facial injuries, but was released on Wednesday.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 0845 0454545.
