Three killed in new Austrian crash
Gleinalm tunnel
Five Dutch holidaymakers died in Monday's crash
Three people have died in a head-on collision inside an Austrian road tunnel, only two days after a similar crash claimed five lives.

A coach carrying elderly tourists hit a small lorry, killing at least two people on the coach and one in the car, said police.

At least 12 other people were hurt, two of them seriously. All those involved are believed to be from Austria.

The crash took place in heavy morning traffic in the Amberg tunnel on the A-14 main road between Bregenz and Innsbruck.

Two cars and a motorcycle were also involved in the crash.

Forty-five coach passengers were freed by rescue workers through one of the windows.

Series of tragedies

On Monday, five people died and four were injured in a head-on collision in a tunnel north of Graz, when several vehicles crashed and caught fire.

This week's crashes have raised safety concerns once again in Austria which has seen a series of tragic accidents in tunnels.

Last year, 155 people died when a funicular train caught fire in a tunnel in the Alpine resort of Kaprun.

And in 1999, 12 people lost their lives in the Tauern road tunnel fire.
