Trouble erupts in Oldham
Debris and people in the Glodwick streets after trouble on 27 May
Glodwick was the scene of riots in May
Extra police have been drafted into Oldham following a disturbance in the Glodwick area of the former mill town on Thursday night.

A spokeswoman confirmed there was "an incident" in the Greater Manchester town on Thursday evening but said it appeared to have been contained and was no cause for concern.

Officers were called to the area at about 2145BST after a group of between 30 and 50 youths attacked a car on Glodwick Road close to the junction with Waterloo Road.

Police dispersed the crowd and order was quickly restored, the spokeswoman said.

About 50 extra police officers were patrolling the area on Thursday night, police added.

Glodwick was the setting for racially-fuelled rioting at the end of May when tensions erupted on the streets, cars were torched, houses attacked and pubs petrol bombed.

The far-right British National Party polled 16% of Oldham West and Royton's votes at the general election about 10 days later.

The BBC has since learned that another far-right party, the National Front, is actively recruiting members in the town.

The party's activities organiser, Terry Blackham, said the NF intended to put up candidates in the town's next local elections.
