The family car involved in the crossroads crash
A young mother and her nine-year-old son injured in a road accident in the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday have died in hospital.

Catherine Curtis had undergone emergency surgery and her son Wayne had been on a life support machine since the crash near Monaghan.

Mrs Curtis' four-year-old daughter died in hospital, and two teenagers from her extended family died at the scene after the crash.

The family were on their way to Bundoran in County Donegal when their car was in collision with a milk tanker.

It happened on the main Monaghan to Cootehill Road near Swann's Cross at about 1300 BST.

Mrs Curtis' husband and three-month-old baby were also injured in the crash.
