Sex publications banned in Tanzania

The Tanzanian authorities have banned 12 publications with immediate effect.

The minister of state responsible for the media and politics, Omar Ramadhani Mapuri, said their sexual content was contributing to the moral degradation of society.

He said the magazines had ignored a warning from the registrar of newspapers not to continue publishing pictures of semi-nude women, and police had been instructed to arrest and charge the publishers, printers and vendors.
