Indigenous march in Chile turns violent
The Governor of the central Chilean province of Araucania, Berta Belmar, says the local authorities are considering taking legal action against Mapuche indian leaders following a violent protest on Wednesday in the city of Temuco. Cars and buildings were damaged and at least 20 people injured in the demonstration, one of the largest in recent years. The Mapuches were protesting against a police raid last week on their headquarters and against alleged racial discrimination by judges. More than 120 demonstrators were arrested.
