Swordfish: Your views
Will Swordfish be the film of the summer?
After Battlefield Earth John Travolta needed a blockbuster to put him back on track.

Travolta plays Gabriel Shear, a dubious patriot criminal, who, with the help of computer hacker Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman) is intent on stealing $9.5bn of government funds. Halle Berry, as Ginger, is Jobson's token sexy side-kick. "Stylish thrills galore, which is all very well, but don't expect much else," wrote BBC News Online's Olive Clancy.
But what do you think? Can this film turn Travolta's career around again? Is it an action classic? Or just another run-of-the-mill thriller?
An OK film: overblown, over-stylised and quite silly. But it is also exciting, amusing and enjoyable. Certainly not the worst film this year - Tomb Raider wins that particular accolade.
With more twists than a Chubby Checker convention, this film is John Travolta back to form after the disaster of Battlefield Earth. A great storyline and excellent casting make this the action film of the summer.
Thank god Vinnie Jones is in the film. If you work with computers, you will need to suspend reality for the duration of the film. It is good escapism.
Swordfish may just be one of the better summer Blockbuster-ish movies. While the plot tries to be cleverer than it actually is, the scenes and action are engaging. John Travolta's character is over the top again (but not like Battlefield Earth!) and Jackman does not convince as a computer techie. Halle Berry provides the eye candy and was the main marketing ploy for the movie with her nude scene. This has more than enough entertainment to be a good all-round summer movie considering the rubbish already showing. 6.5 out of 10!

The thing is, I've never liked John Travolta. The only reason to see this film is to watch the amazingly talented Hugh Jackman.
I loved it because Travolta was in it. The movie was definitely original but the scenes where Stan is making the worm while dancing, drinking, and listening to loud music were unrealistic. It never happens that way. And what were those graphics on the screen when the worm was being made? That was the only weak point of the movie.
Pretty special effects but plot, actions and characters too immature (the nightclub scene) and too contrived (golf shots, standing, shooting in the TVR) to be enjoyable. Not a patch on The Matrix or the Lethal Weapon series. Mr Silver, you have let us down.
I only went to see Halle Berry, she's hot. The movie wasn't bad either.
This movie is just OK. Nice people, a few nice views, a handful of great ones and well used special effects, but little real suspense. There are some gaping holes in the movie, but overall it is of sufficient distraction to be a success (at least for its investors).

Although Travolta is quite definitely the coolest villain ever, and there are some beautifully directed action sequences, the storyline is a little shaky, and I found the final scenes a little defeatist after the righteous power of the rest of the film. Definitely one to see all the same.
I watched it last Saturday. The scene where the hostage blows up with a claymore mine strapped to her is superb - the camera action is incredible. However, the storyline was tenuous to say the least and the techno babble started to get boring after a while (and I know computers). Not bad, but not good enough.
Swordfish was excellent. It was an action thriller made with unique style. To its critics, accept it for what it is. A good thrill. Get a life and stop looking for things that aren't there and enjoy the things that are.
Although I get the feeling I have encountered the same storyline somewhere else, I found the film very watchable and one I would like to see again just to get my head around all the twists and turns the films takes!

Very good action yet it still could not make computer hacking look exciting. Opening sequence was something else.
Top class film, well worth the £4.80 it cost me to get in, and to be honest if I'd known it was that good, I would have gladly payed double that.
John Travolta rules!
Swordfish is a definite improvement on Battlefield Earth and should save Travolta from film hell. This is a great action thriller with some good twists and moments. It appeals to the action fanatics though.
Loved it - first five minutes are truly awesome followed by a solid action flick which sees Travolta doing his mad man act (as seen in Face Off and Broken Arrow). This movie is wonderfully gratuitous and good fun. A pleasure to sit through.
Wow, go and see this film for the first five minutes alone. The explosion sequence is breathtaking and deserves to be seen on the big screen.
This is definitely a film to watch on the big screen rather than at home on your 21 inch! The camera techniques used throughout are excellent, the best I have seen in a film yet. Travolta is good and the plot, although hard to follow at times, is gripping. However, the twist at the end was a tad bit hard to believe! Overall, a good film though.
Once you look through the big budget production values there is very little left. The effects, while very polished, look fake and the plot is decidedly lame and unoriginal. The ending twist was hardly a surprise and Travolta's escape plan was about the worst ever conceived - hoisting a bus onto a rooftop just so the cables could snap and be oh-so-exciting was incredibly transparent and somewhat insulting. Con Air is a far better example of how to do stupid over-the-top action nonsense and make it fun and enjoyable - this one missed the mark
I can only describe it in one word - awesome. Now a message to Mr Sliver - he has to better it in The Matrix 2 and 3.
