Ex-politicians

Rachel Wright looks at politicians who left politics to do something more interesting. Attention focuses here on Robert Kilroy-Silk who left the Labour Party in 1986 at the height of the Trotskyite/Kinnockite battles, and Matthew Parris who also upped sticks and departed to television to present Weekend World. It happened at the zenith of Thatcherism, provoking a by-election in which the Tories only just held on to the seat.
