New Ugandan cabinet appointed
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has announced the make-up of a new cabinet following parliamentary elections last month. The list contains few new faces and includes 10 ministers who failed to win seats in the election but who can hold office by presidential appointment. Fifteen women are included in the new line-up of nearly 70 cabinet and junior ministers. In a personal move, President Museveni relinquished the defence portfolio for the first time since he came to power in 1986. Mr Museveni was returned to office in a presidential election in May.
