'Bandit queen' shot dead

India's most famous bandit, Phoolan Devi, has been shot dead by unidentified assailants. Known throughout the world as the Bandit Queen, Phoolan Devi had become an MP and had left parliament at lunchtime to go home. As she got out of her car and began walking towards her house in New Delhi, several armed men opened fire. Phoolan Devi was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
