Indian pilgrims in road accident
Police in the north Indian state of Punjab say at least 22, including some women and children are feared to have drowned after the truck they were travelling in plunged into an irrigation canal.
They said the vehicle, carrying more than 40 people, apparently went out of control after its brakes failed. Emergency services managed to rescue 21 people after the crash close to a historic Sikh shrine in Ropar district. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
