Teenager raped beside busy road
Cambridge map
A 13-year-old has been raped in the middle of the afternoon next to a main road in Cambridge.

Detectives hunting the rapist are now appealing for the owner of a white van to come forward.

The teenager was attacked just before the rush-hour alongside the busy Lime Kiln Hill road in the town.

Police said the van was seen in the area at the time of the attack and they want to eliminate the owners from the investigation.

Officers describe the van as "dirty, creamy white" in colour and similar to an old-style Ford Escort.

"We have been unable to trace the owner of this van and I would appeal to them to come forward," said Detective Inspector Chris Ford.

"The sooner they come forward the sooner they can be eliminated."

The girl has told police that she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted at about 1500BST on Friday 6 July as she walked along the road.

She described the attacker was about 5ft 4ins tall, aged 40 to 50 with grey hair.
