Lagos fights rising crime with helicopters

The authorities in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos, have agreed to deploy police helicopters and armed mobile units and to put more police officers on the streets to combat the rise in armed robberies in the city.

This was announced after a meeting over the weekend between the chief of police, Musliu Smith, and the state governor, Bola Tinibu.

Correspondents say they have been under pressure to deal with the dramatic increase in armed robbery.

Eleven people, among them a three-year-old child, were killed by armed robbers over the weekend.
