Indian parliament adjourns for a day
The new monsoon session of the Indian parliament opened in Delhi on Monday, but was adjourned shortly afterwards as a sign of respect for the death of King Birendra of Nepal.

The king, Queen Aiswarya and several other members of the Nepalese royal family were shot dead last month by Crown Prince Dipendra, who then killed himself.

The parliamentary session is to resume on Tuesday when Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is expected to make a statement on his talks last week with the Pakistani President, General Pervez Musharraf.

The summit collapsed over disagreements about a final statement on Kashmir.
