Blair orders check on disease spending

The clean-up of farms in the UK hit by foot and mouth is suspended by the government because of cost. The Prime Minister is said to be concerned the total bill could reach £800m and has ordered a review of the operation. Clean up costs in England and Wales are as much as ten times higher than on farms elsewhere in Europe.
