Ivory Coast PM is new party leader

The Prime Minister of Ivory Coast, Pascal Affi N'Guessan, has been elected to replace President Gbagbo as head of the ruling Ivorian Popular Front.

The Interior Minister, Emile Boga Dodou, said the intention was to rejuvenate the leadership of the party.

President Gbagbo won controversial presidential elections in October last year, when the leader of the main opposition party, Alassane Ouattara, was barred from taking part following a court ruling casting doubts on his nationality.
