Ecstasy raver collapses at Love event
The Love Bus makes up for the cancelled parade
A 19-year-old man collapsed after taking ecstasy at a weekend dance event.
The Manchester man, who has not been named, was visiting Newcastle for the city's club dance festival dubbed Love Weekend. A police spokeswoman said the man was initially treated at a designated first aid centre at Newcastle University just after 0300BST on Sunday.
Thousands of young people turned up in Newcastle on Saturday for the Love Weekend. BBC Radio 1 had previously planned to hold the Love Parade during the weekend, a massive dance party on the streets of the city. But it was cancelled following concerns from the police about park and ride facilities. Thousands still turned up to hold unofficial parties including a tour by a sole Love Bus which took dance fans for a party in Exhibition Park. Official indoor events were held by Radio 1 at nightclubs in the city.
