Uganda rebels' letter welcomed
The authorities in Uganda have welcomed as a positive response, a letter from the rebel Uganda National Rescue Front leader, Major-General Ali Bamuze. It was in reply to one Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni wrote to the rebel leader last year. President Museveni's had proposed a peaceful resolution to the 20-year insurgency in the northwest of Uganda. Correspondents say splits among the National Rescue Front rebels had delayed the rebels' response, the details of which have not been disclosed. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
