Opposition to missile defence grows
RAF Fylingdales
Some of the listening towers have been demolished
Despite this week's show of unity by President Bush and Prime Minister Blair, America's missile defence plans are still arousing strong opposition in this country.

The most dramatic demonstration so far has been the rooftop occupation at the Menwith Hill base near Harrogate.

But trouble is also stirring at the Fylingdales early warning station on the North Yorkshire Moors, which campaigners say is also being expanded as part of America's plans.

And because the site is in a national park - the issue may end up in a public inquiry.
