Army convoy ambushed in Kashmir
The authorities in Indian-administered Kashmir say two civilians have been killed in a clash between separatist militants and security forces. Police said the clash happened when gunmen ambushed an Indian army convoy at Thajiwara village near the town of Acchabal, about 50 km south of the capital, Srinagar. The militant group, Lashkar-e-Toyeba, said it was responsible for the attack. The incident came within hours of the arrival in Delhi of the Pakistani president, Pervez Musharraf. Security has been stepped up in India to deal with possible attacks by Kashmir militants during the visit. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
