Rough justice
	A Brazilian former police colonel, recently sentenced to more than 600 years in jail, has been released while he appeals his conviction. He was found guilty of ordering the killing of dozens of inmates during a prison riot. The decision has angered human rights groups and provoked a wide ranging debate about the judicial system.
