Nigeria's biggest bank heist
Bank robbers in Nigeria have escaped with the equivalent of $320,000 in a daring raid on a Lagos branch of the Diamond bank. Police say the five attackers also stole one of their vehicles equipped with a siren, to help them escape more quickly. They say they are holding four employees from the bank after it emerged that there was a long delay in the alarm being raised. Correspondents say newspapers have been full of reports of increasingly daring armed robberies over the past weeks. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
