Afghan universities abroad not recognised
Reports from Afghanistan say the ruling Taleban will no longer recognise academic qualifications from universities outside the country.
Taleban radio said qualifications from the Afghan University in Peshawar in neighbouring Pakistan, in particular, would no longer be accepted. The university has almost 3,000 mostly Afghan refugees; 700 of them are women. The Taleban have already banned women from schools and universities in areas under their control in Afghanistan. University officials in Peshawar have expressed concern that this latest move will restrict further the Afghans' already limited access to higher education.
