The BBC's Chewin' the Fat star Greg Hemphill has become a father for the first time

The 30-year-old comic is celebrating the arrival of his son Benny just a fortnight after co-star Ford Kiernan's wife had their second baby.

Hemphill's wife Julie, 28, who also appears in the hit BBC sketch show, gave birth to 9lb 2oz Benny on Wednesday afternoon at the Queen Mother's Hospital in Glasgow, a spokeswoman for BBC Scotland said.

"Both mother and baby are doing fine," the spokeswoman added.

'Gonnae no dae that'

Thirty-six-year-old Kiernan's second child, Sonny, was born two weeks ago.

He and his wife Lesley, 30, also have a two-year-old daughter, Kaye.

Hemphill, Kiernan and Karen Dunbar have become the stars of one of BBC Scotland's most successful programmes, with the catchphrase 'Gonnae no dae that', helping to make it an instant hit.

In April the now well-known catchphrase was adopted by DJ Daddy Cool in a remixed version of clubland hit Put Your Hands In the Air.

It became a dancefloor sensation before it was even formally recorded.
