Police in Edinburgh have taken the unusual step of appealing for the victims of a street crime to come forward.

Two men have been charged in connection with an alleged street robbery in the city's Leith Street, but police are keen to speak to the victims who were not traced at the time.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday 11 June last year and police have issued a photograph from a CCTV camera in an effort to identify the victims.

Series of robberies

A statement issued by Lothian and Borders Police said: "The police are investigating a number of street robberies which occurred in the centre of Edinburgh during the summer of 2000.

"They are keen to trace a group of young males who may be able to help with their enquiries regarding one of these incidents in Leith Street, Edinburgh in the early hours of Sunday 11 June 2000."

"If you are one of the males or recognise any of the people shown please call St Leonard's police station on 0131 662 5000."
