Designer dress has rich seams

A dress made from thousands of pounds has been handed over to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Fashion designer Russell Sage made the dress from money donated by mortgage lender Britannic Money. It provided £6,000 of £20 and £50 legal tender banknotes. Two Securicor guards flanked the English model Laura Bailey, who wore the dress at the hand-over.
"It sounds very ostentatious but it's not in your face, it's actually a pretty, sexy little dress." Britannic Money donated £10,000 to Sage, £6,000 of which he stitched into a colourful rosette pattern to make the dress. The remaining £4,000 was used to make a jacket, skirt and several headpieces. 'Exemplary' design Sage hopes to auction the jacket, skirt and headpieces for charity to prove that the world of haute couture is not all "just about making money". Previous creations by the designer include a dress made from a parachute he used for a sky dive and another dress made from his mother's wedding gown. The V&A said the dress was "an exemplary piece of 21st century fashion". The creations were on show at London Fashion Week last February and form par of the designer's 2001 collection, "Russell Sage is History".
