Silent protests after Madrid bomb attack

In Spain, thousands of people have taken part in silent protests against the killing of a policeman in a car bomb attack in Madrid on Tuesday.

The authorities have blamed the Basque separatist organisation, ETA, for the blast, which injured at least ten people.

The attack was also strongly condemned by the leader of the regional Basque government, Juan Jose Ibarretxe, who today began his second term in office.

ETA has admitted carrying out over 30 killings since it ended its ceasefire some eighteen months ago.
