Kabul ammunition depot blast
![]() Reports from Afghanistan say three people were injured in an explosion overnight at an ammunition depot in the outskirts of the capital, Kabul.
Residents described being woken by a massive explosion. "After the blast, the sky was illuminated by flames rising from the ground and then small explosions for a few minutes," said one eyewitness. There was no word about casualties or what might have caused the blast. Previous blasts Some eyewitness were quoted as saying they heard a whistling sound of a rocket or missile immediately before the blast - but there was no confirmation that this caused it. Witnesses said Taleban fighters sealed off roads leading to the area and detained two local journalists who went to investigate. The Taleban authorities have blamed opposition forces for other explosions in the capital this year. In March, a car bomb in Kabul killed five people and injured about 12 others. The Taleban said it was aimed at the country's education minister. There were also several explosions outside government ministries in February.
