Job losses at Compaq |

| In another sign of trouble in the high-tech economy, the American computer maker Compaq has announced it is to cut another 4,000 jobs around the world. That makes a total of 8,500 jobs slashed since the start of the year - some 13% of the workforce. The company blamed the losses on the worsening economic conditions in Europe.
