A town in the north of England has produced a second multi-million pound lottery winner in just a week.

Barry Moss, 57, a Newcastle United supporter from Darlington in County Durham, scooped £7.5m in Saturday night's draw.

His partner Pat knows Anita Wynne, a care assistant in Darlington, who landed £3.6m a week earlier.

Both winners are from the market town of Darlington, which has a population of just over 100,000 people.

Mr Moss has four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

As a result of his win, he has resigned from his job at a civil engineering works.

He said: "We were watching the lottery numbers come up on a small TV as we were trying to get the barbecue going.

"I just stood there completely in shock ... I really didn't know what to do.

He recreated the moment for the media

"After that the barbecue went out of the window."

"I did not think I had much of a chance this week after hearing about the other win," he added.

The former plant operator now plans to buy a house with a swimming pool in the Darlington area and spend more time on his hobbies - nature and watching Newcastle United.

His winning numbers were 24, 34, 37, 38, 41 and 49 which saw him win £7,573,460.

Mrs Wynne scooped the Lottery jackpot when her winning numbers came to her in her sleep.

A spokeswoman for Darlington Borough Council said: "The fact the winners live in Darlington is good luck in itself because it is a lovely place to live."
