Stakeholder pensions: Your questions
![]() BBC Radio Scotland's Waseem Zakir introduces a feature tackling your questions on stakeholder pensions.
Have you discovered the secret to eternal youth? If you haven't then I would hate to break this to you, but you have aged by around eight seconds since you started reading this sentence. Sooner or later you and I will be trotting down the Post Office for our weekly pension only to find that it really wasn't worth taking the zimmer frame out for a ride. Your state pension will be worth next to nothing in a few years from now. As the population gets older, there won't be enough money going into the government's coffers to pay for a decent pension. So, the government wants us to build up a nest egg to supplement what it will pay pensioners, and it has come up with something called the stakeholder pension. But what are these things? How do they work? And why should we bother with them? BBC Radio Scotland attempted to strip away some of the jargon surrounding stakeholder pensions in a feature on Good Morning Scotland.
