The Turner Prize is the UK art world's most prestigious honour, but always manages to cause controversy.

Chris Ofili won for work involving the use of elephant dung in 1998, while Damien Hirst won in 1995 with his sheep pickled in formaldehyde.

Last year, photographer Wolfgang Tillmans won the award with images of a half-naked man urinating on a chair and rats running through a rubbish tip.

And Brit art darling Tracey Emin's nominated work, My Bed, caused a storm of controversy in 1999, featuring an unmade bed surrounded by dirty underwear and used condoms.

This year, the all-male shortlist looks set to continue the trend.

Film-maker and former Cannes competitor Isaac Julien is up against Mike Nelson, who uses rubbish to construct his art.

Video-maker and photographer Richard Billingham is best known for portraying life with his alcoholic father, while Martin Creed works with neon.
