BBC News 24's Home Affairs Correspondent
Andy was born in Manchester and did a degree in Politics and Economics before joining the BBC in 1987 as a local radio trainee.
He worked first in the Midlands before coming to London as a reporter for the Today programme. He then went to New York as a stringer before joining the launch team on BBC News 24.
Andy's reporting assignments include the Gulf War, the Yugoslavian conflict, three presidential elections, the Lockerbie trial, the Concorde crash, the Northern Ireland peace settlement and numerous court cases, including the Jill Dando and Damilola Taylor murder trials.
Most recently he has been heavily involved in BBC News 24's coverage of the Hutton Inquiry and the Soham murder trial.
He speaks French and Spanish and lives in south London with his partner and two young sons.
