World Cup 'dress rehearsal' underway
Japan and South Korea are hosting an international football tournament which is widely viewed as a trial run for next year's World Cup. The BBC's correspondent in Seoul says officials from football's world governing body FIFA will be watching closely how the two countries run the competition, particularly the provision of transport links and other infrastructure. Sixteen international teams are taking part in the Confederations Cup, including France and Brazil. South Korea has spent more than $2bn on new stadiums for next year's World Cup, but so far only three out of ten venues are ready. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
