Mexican police arrest over Arizona deaths

The authorities in the US state of Arizona have detained a man in connection with the deaths from heat exposure of 14 Mexican migrants who were abandoned by smugglers in the desert.

A spokesman for the police in the Yuma area said they arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of being part of the gang who organised the illegal border crossing into the United States of 28 immigrants.

After the discovery of the bodies in what is believed to be the worst single incident of its kind, the United States and Mexico have emphasised the need for closer cooperation on migration.
