Videos 'show seal hunt cruelty'
Campaigners against seal hunting in the Canadian province of Newfoundland have released videos which they say prove that many of the animals are killed in an inhumane manner. The campaigners say they have recorded more than 250 incidents of cruelty. In one instance, a seal is shot and left squirming on the ice. But Canadian Government officials say the videos don't provide enough evidence to bring charges against individuals. Under Canadian law, seals must be killed as swiftly as possible and must not suffer in the process. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
