Martine presents the news from 0000 to 0600 on Sunday and from 0100 to 0600 on Monday and Tuesday on BBC News 24
Martine grew up in rural Leicestershire, went to school in Coventry and read geography at the University of Leeds. After graduating she took a year out to travel in Africa.
Her first foray into broadcasting was for BBC Radio Leicester in 1991 - she had intended to stay behind the scenes in production but quickly developed a taste for presenting and reporting.
Martine's first television work was for the BBC's regional news programme, East Midlands Today.
This paved the way for a job in London with BBC Newsroom South East in 1997.
Three years later, she moved to Television Centre as the presenter of UK Today, one of the BBC's digital satellite services.
