OAS delegation goes to Haiti

A delegation from the Organisation of American States has warned the government and opposition in Haiti that they face international isolation if they do not sort out their problems soon.

The opposition continues to dispute the results of elections last November, which were won by the former priest, Jean Bertrand Aristide.

The OAS delegation has been sent at the request of the Canadian leader, Jean Chretien, who said democracy in Haiti was in danger.

Many countries and aid agencies are withholding aid to Haiti - one of the region's poorest countries - until the dispute is resolved.

The BBC correspondent in the region says President Aristide appears to have done very little to find a solution despite a promise to the United States.
