Access to Malaysian detained dissidents
Members of the Malaysian human rights commission have been allowed to visit 10 political activists who are being held under security laws which allow detention without trial. Most of the 10 are supporters of the jailed former deputy prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, who is serving 15 years on sex and corruption charges. They were arrested in April and accused of plotting violent protests to overthrow the government. The commission said they appeared to be in good health. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
