Pregnant woman in robbery ordeal

The pregnant woman was taken to hospital
A pregnant postmistress is recovering from shock after being tied up during a robbery ordeal in Armagh.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was confronted by three armed and masked men when she opened the office at Ogle Street at about 0900 BST on Tuesday.

The men, one armed with a handgun and another with a knife, had been hiding at the rear of the premises.

When the postmistress arrived, she was forced to open a safe, and then she was tied up.

The men escaped with a sum of cash.

'Traumatised'

Sheila McCann, the post office's regional network manager, said the post mistress had been put through a "terrifying experience".

"She was very badly shaken up and traumatised by it," she added.

Sheila McCann: "She was very badly shaken."

Ms McCann said the woman had to be taken to hospital for a check-up following the incident, but had been okay.

The post office will remain closed for the next few days.

Detectives in Armagh are appealing for anybody who was in the area at the time, and has information about the incident, to contact them.
