Three men were injured after a gas cylinder exploded in a flat in Newry.

The men went into the unoccupied flat in North Street in the town in the early hours of Monday.

Neighbours reported an explosion and fire at about 0500 BST.

The three men were taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry suffering from burns.

Two were later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast for specialist burns treatment.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated, however, it is not thought to have been deliberate.
